Monday February 22, 2021 “Baby Love” The Supremes

We recently lost Mary Wilson, one of the original founders of the Primettes who would go on to become the Supremes. The trio reached number one on Billboard's Hot 100 with 12 of their singles, the most successful Motown act of the 1960s and the best-charting female group in U.S. chart history, as well as one of the best-selling girl groups of all-time.

Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown records, commissioned Holland-Dozier-Holland to follow up the Supremes very successful “Where Did Our Love Go” with the suggestion that it should have the same feel and the result was "Baby Love".  Give each song a listen together and I suspect you might feel that they did a pretty good job.

Mary Wilson was the only member of the Supremes that remained a part of the group from it's initial founding. and continued a successful solo career after the group finally disbanded She was about to release a new solo album/CD when she passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. She planned the release to be around her birthday March 6. She has also written two best selling autobiographies.

Stay safe and well...and wow, nice hair on Ms. Ross.

Baby love, my baby love, I need you

Oh, how I need you

But all you do is treat me bad

Break my heart and leave me sad

Tell me what did I do wrong

To make you stay away so long

'Cause baby love, my baby love

Been missing ya (ooh), miss kissing ya

Instead of breaking up

Let's start some kissing and making up

Don't throw our love away

In my arms why don't you stay?

 Need ya, need ya

Baby love, (ooh) baby love

 Baby love, my baby love

Why must we separate my love?

All of my whole life through

I never love no one but you

Why you do me like you do, I guess it's me

Ooh, ooh, need to hold you once again my love

Feel your warm embrace my love

Don't throw our love away

Please don't do me this way

Not happy like I used to be

Loneliness has got the best of me my love

My baby love, I need ya

Oh, how I need ya

Why you do me like you do

After I've been true to you

So deep in love with you

Baby, baby (baby), ooh

'Til it hurt me, 'til it hurt me

Ooh, baby love

Don't throw our love away

Don't throw our love away
