Monday September 26, 2022 “Forever Young” Rod Stewart
The ancient Greek historian Herodotus referenced a fountain that contained special waters that extended longevity and Ponce de León was supposedly searching for the Fountain of Youth when he traveled to Florida in 1513. Legend has it that Alexander the Great was searching for the same restorative spring when he crossed into the Land of Darkness. In the fantasy, The Travels of Sir John Mandeville he finds the fountain of youth at the foot of a mountain outside Polombe in India.
These seekers however would likely be surprised to discover that the answers to their searches could be found in rock music. So this week we will explore the idea that music has the ability to keep us young, however maybe not forever.
Rod Stewart starts us off with his lovely song of youth titled “Forever Young” which he wrote along with his guitarist Jim Cregan and his keyboard player Kevin Savigar. Stewart also produced the song along with Andy Taylor of Duran Duran who also performed the guitar solo.
Stewart has said, "I love 'Forever Young,' because that was a real heartfelt song about my kids. I suddenly realized I'd missed a good five years of Sean and Kimberly’s (his first two children, he has eight) life because I was so busy touring all the time.”
Stewart is among the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold over 250 million records worldwide. He has had ten number-one albums and thirty one top ten singles, six of which reached number one.
Although “Forever Young” was not a hit for Rod Stewart in his native England it was a top twenty US hit in 1988 and receives considerable airplay even today.
Stay safe and well…and the young boy in the "Forever Young" video is not one of Rod Stewart's children but is Alex Zuckerman who is currently senior editor at the news network Newsy.
