Saturday September 17, 2022 “Breaking Us In Two” Joe Jackson

Thought that I would end the week of ‘twos’ with a slow dance…ladies choice.

The genre defying Joe Jackson has recorded twenty one albums and has a half dozen recognizable hits including but certainly not limited to, “Is She Really Going Out with Him”, “Look Sharp” and “Steppin’ Out” along with today’s song.

A multi-instrumentalist, Jackson has written movie scores, released classical albums (Symphony No. 1), he played piano on Joan Armatrading's album  Secret Secret’s, collaborated with Suzanne Vega, Todd Rundgren and even William Shatner among others.

Jackson spent a number of years living in New York City, which served as an inspiration for his 1982 song "Steppin' Out". In a 2018 interview, Jackson said "I don't like New York much these days. It's as if the city and I had a hot love affair and now we're just friends, but we still have to see each other to remain friends. Today I live in Berlin. The New York I knew in late '81 and '82 is gone."[He currently resides in Berlin but maintains residences in New York City and Portsmouth

Stay safe and well…and enjoy this moody ballad, dance to it if you like but remember it is a ladies choice.

Don't you feel like trying something new

Don't you feel like breaking out

Or breaking us in two

You don't do the things that I do

You want to do things I can't do

Always something breaking us in two

You and I could never live alone

But don't you feel like breaking out

Just one day on your own

Why does what I'm saying hurt you

I didn't say that we were through

Always something breaking us in two

They say two hearts should beat as one for us

We'll fight it out to see it through

I say that won't be too much fun for us

Though it's oh so nice to get advice

It's oh so hard to do

Could we be much closer if we tried

We could stay at home and

Stare into each others eyes

Maybe we could last an hour

Maybe then we'd see right through

Always something breaking us in two

They say two hearts should beat as one for us

We'll fight it out to see it through

I say that won't be too much fun for us

Though it's oh so nice to get advice

It's oh so hard to do

Could we be much closer if we tried

We could stay at home and

Stare into each others eyes

Maybe we could last an hour

Maybe then we'd see right through

Always something breaking us in two

Always something breaking us in two
