Saturday April 4, 2020 “Lean on Me” Bill Withers

Bill Withers left us yesterday and it seemed only appropriate to pay respects to a great songwriter who left us with some really special songs.

So thank you Bill Withers for this particular song which takes on truly special meaning in today’s world. Spend a little time with his catalog if you are not familiar with his songs that may not have gotten broad airplay, I promise it will be worthwhile.

The video included here is from his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame performed by Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder and John Legend. Withers suggested after the performance that it was great to hear his song performed by both a Wonder and a Legend. This would be his last performance.

Let’s take his thoughts to heart; we do all need somebody to lean on but be wise, knowing that there will always be tomorrow.

Be safe and well.

A D
Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
A E D
We all have sorrow
A D
But if we are wise
A D A
We know that there's always tomorrow

A D
Lean on me, when you're not strong
A
And I'll be your friend
E D
I'll help you carry on
A D
For it won't be long
A
'Til I'm gonna need
E A
Somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show

You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might that you'll understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might that you'll understand
We all need somebody to lean on

If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load

If you just call me (call me)
If you need a friend (call me)
If you ever need a friend (call me)
Call me (call me) call me (call me) call me
(Call me) call me (call me) if you need a friend
(Call me) call me (call me) call me (call me) call me (call me) call me (call me)
