Friday April 3, 2020 “Walking on Sunshine” Katrina and the Waves

The unlikely combination of a dishwasher, a mortician's helper and a bowling ball hole driller formed the initial core of the band Katrina and the Waves. Originally called simply The Waves the band decided to play the sexist card and add Katrina so they might get more gigs on the military bases they started out playing on.

And Katrina, yes there really is a Katrina, like all good rock stars had developed a significant affection for drinking and became so involved that she suffered frequent blackouts. Legend has it that after a particular night of partying, drinking and blacking out she walked past a newsstand only to be horrified by the morning headlines “Katrina kills hundreds.” The story of course was about Hurricane Katrina that destroyed the gulf coast.

She is reportedly sober, happy and walking on sunshine, a song which reportedly generates a million dollars a year in royalties with all the commercials,TV shows and movies it is included in. And all for the band who own the publishing rights, a rare piece of sunshine in the music business.

And it is such a happy, infectious song that you can’t help but sing along and even if you are only in for the chorus you will feel better for doing so.

And know that soon we will all be walking on sunshine.

Stay well and happy.

A D E D (capo first fret)

I used to think maybe you loved me now baby I'm sure

And I just can't wait till the day when you knock on my door

Now every time I go for the mailbox, gotta hold myself down

'Cause I just can't wait 'til you write me you're coming around

E D

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

And don't it feel good

Hey, alright now

And don't it feel good, hey

I used to think maybe you loved me, now I know that it's true

And I don't want to spend my whole life, just waiting for you

Now I don't want you back for the weekend

Not back for a day, no no no

I said baby I just want you back

And I want you to stay (Oh yeah now!)

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

And don't it feel good

Hey, alright now

And don't it feel good (Yeah!)

And don't it feel good

Walking on sunshine

Walking on sunshine

I feel the love, I feel the love, I feel the love that's really real

I feel the love, I feel the love, I feel the love that's really real

I'm on sunshine baby (Ow! Oh yeah!)

I'm on sunshine baby (Ow!)

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

And don't it feel good (Hey! Alright now!)

And don't it feel good (I'll say it I'll say it I'll say it again now)

And don't it feel good (Hey yeah now!)

And don't it feel good (Don't it, don't it, don't it, don't it, don't it, don't it)

Feel good

And don't it feel good

And don't it feel good

And don't it feel good

And don't it feel good

Now don't it feel good
