Friday November 12, 2021 “Liar” The Cranberries
The Cranberries were a band founded by brothers Noel and Mike Hogan (guitar and bass, respectively) formed in Limerick, Ireland, with drummer Fergal Lawler in 1990. Following the departure of the group's original singer, Niall Quinn, the trio placed an advertisement for a female singer and Dolores O'Riordan responded and was almost immediately hired.
The band's debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, certainly among the best album titles I can think of, was released in the spring of 1993, followed by a single of "Dreams." Neither the album nor the single gained much attention, nor did the second single, "Linger."
However “Linger” was put into heavy rotation by MtV and wound up as a top ten hit on the US charts and ultimately became a number one UK hit.
Ever wonder just how profitable it might be to have a couple of international top ten songs?
In mid-1995, a few short years after O'Riordan joined the group she was one of the richest women in the UK at the age of 24. In 2006, she was one of the 10 richest women in Ireland. In 2008, she was sixth on the list of the ten richest artists in Ireland; her net worth was $66 million. O'Riordan earned $5 million annually from her musical career and she purchased six luxury cars including a Bentley. She had a net worth of $25 million at the time of her death, at age 46.
Stay safe and well...and Dolores left us in 2008...guess money really can’t buy everything.
