Friday October 29, 2021 “Driver’s Seat” Sniff N’ the Tears
OK let’s get right to it, Sniff N’ The Tears!? Originally the band was called Ashes of the Moon, not that much better, and then they became the Tears and you can immediately see the problem with that. The same problem that the Oneders had in the movie That Thing You Do in that the name allows for more than one pronunciation.
Was it the ‘o-needers’ in the movie or the ‘wonders’ and with the Tears is it like tearing paper or is this band just so sad that they are constantly shedding tears. So their manager suggested adding ‘sniff’ for clarity because apparently one of the band members had allergies and was constantly sniffling.
There have been dumber reasons for band names, right?
"Driver's Seat" is a 1978 top ten song that appeared on the Sniff N’ the Tears debut album, Fickle Heart and no, the song is not really about the joys of driving, according to singer/songwriter Paul Roberts. Rather, it is about the 'fragmented, conflicting emotions that occur after the end of a relationship'.
Not able to follow-up this delightful tune with another popular song, Sniff N’ the Tears became a one hit wonder...or is that a one hit ‘oneder’.
Stay safe and well...and let's not dismiss one hit wonders since the majority of songs that we enjoy drop into that category and there is absolutely no shame in being in that group especially when you think of the thousands of bands/artists that are no hit wonders.
