Wednesday April 14, 2021 “Our Day Will Come” Ruby & the Romantics
This is a really smooth, jazzy song.
Ruby & the Romantics is one of the great male/female soul vocal groups, and “Our Day Will Come” was their number one song on both the pop and R&B charts in 1963. The song has been covered by a diverse group of singers ranging from Dionne Warwick, who recorded the original demo for Rosie et al, to Amy Winehouse.
“Our Day Will Come'' was co-written by Mort Garson who would go on to be an arranger for diverse artists like Julie London, Nancy Wilson, Chris Montez, Leslie Uggams, Joanie Sommers, and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Perhaps Garson’s most famous piece of music, an uncredited piece of early electronic music featuring the then new Moog synthesizer, was played during the television transmission of Neil Armstrong’s moon walk in 1969.
Co-writer Bob Hilliard would also work with Burt Bacharach on some of his early hits like “Any Day Now” (Chuck Jackson), “Please Stay” (The Drifters) and “Tower of Strength” (Gene McDaniels.
Ruby & the Romantics would have a couple of additional minor hits after the million selling “Our Day Will Come” but according to Ruby Nash, the Ruby of the Romantics, they never made a penny in royalties.
Stay safe and well...and our day is on the horizon, yes it will come.
