Saturday April 10, 2021 “You Might Think” The Cars
Today’s tune was an international top ten song written by The Cars co-founder and primary songwriter Ric Ocasek and produced by Robert John “Mutt” Lange. Lange had also worked on albums/CDs for AC/DC, Def Leppard, The Boomtown Rats, Foreigner, Michael Bolton, The Cars, Bryan Adams, Huey Lewis and the News and others.
The video for the song would win the first ever MtV Video of the Year award beating out Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit” both memorable videos. During the filming of the video for a later Cars song, “Drive”, directed by actor Timothy Hutton, Ocasek would meet his future wife, model/actress Paulina Porizkova.
Ben Orr, bass player and lead singer on “Drive” passed away in 2000 as a result of pancreatic cancer at age 53 while Ric Ocasek passed away in 2019 as a result of complications from surgery due to coronary artery disease.
The Cars recorded seven top twenty albums/CDs and had nine top twenty singles and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
Stay safe and well...and with “You Might Think” we will bid a fond adieu to 1984. Hope that you all enjoyed the flashback.
