Thursday April 28, 2022 “The First Cut Is the Deepest” Cheryl Crow

This is not our last day of birds but it will be our last day of Crows.

After graduating from the University of Missouri where she majored in music Sheryl Crow (real name) raught music while playing in a couple of local bands at night. With her goal being a recording contract she headed to Los Angeles where she sang local advertising jingles until she landed a steady job as a background singer with Michael Jackson on his international Bad tour.

Following that two year stint with Jackson, Crow returned to LA where she did session background work with the likes of Sting, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Foreigner, Joe Cocker, Sinéad O'Connor, and Don Henley.   Crow then fell in with a loose group of industry pros dubbed the Tuesday Night Music Club.  This collective met once a week to drink, jam, and work out material in an informal, collaborative setting.

The outcome of that association would be Crow’s debut album Tuesday Night Music Club named after that group.  Crow would have successful singles like “Leaving Las Vegas” and “All I Wanna Do” from this album which would eventually reach over seven million copies in sales.  There were members of the Music Club who felt that perhaps they should have gotten some recognition, financial and otherwise, for their contributions to this album.

Sheryl Crow would go on to record eleven albums, fourteen top ten songs, sell more than fifty million records and be nominated for five Grammys and an Oscar.

I’m not always a fan of Sheryl Crow, my fault not hers, but I do enjoy everrything that Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens wrote so today’s number one song is a trade off for me.

Stay safe and well…and given the current world situation “everyone jump upon the peace.” as Cat Stevens said, in a different song

Easy guitar cheat on this song:  G D C D   G C D

I would have given you all of my heart

But there's someone who's torn it apart

And he's taking just all that I had

But if you want, I'll try to love again

Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know

The first cut is the deepest, baby, I know

The first cut is the deepest

But when it comes to being lucky, he's cursed

When it comes to lovin' me, he's worse

I still want you by my side

Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried

And I'm sure gonna give you a try

If you want, I'll try to love again, try

Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know, oh

The first cut is the deepest, baby, I know

The first cut is the deepest

But when it comes to being lucky, he's cursed

When it comes to lovin' me, he's worse

I still want you by my side

Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried

But I'm sure gonna give you a try

'Cause if you want, I'll try to love again

(Try to love again, try to love again)

Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know, oh

The first cut is the deepest, baby, I know

The first cut is the deepest

But when it comes to being lucky, he's cursed

When it comes to lovin' me, he's worse, oh oh

The first cut is the deepest, baby, I know

The first cut is the deepest

Try to love again
