Wednesday September 16, 2020 “Can We Still Be Friends” Todd Rundgren

A really fine tune but not his most popular one.

So for me, Todd Rundgren is the reason most guys join bands and write songs, because maybe they’re not so great looking (watch the video) and they want to get girls.  Let’s start by saying I don’t pretend to be Brad Pitt but here’s Todd who kind of answers Joe Jackson’s question ‘is she really going out with him’, yes she is.

OK I’m a superficial jerk, I admit it openly.

This is a really nice tune written and produced by Rundgren, an undeniably gifted pop songwriter, but at his core, he is a rock & roll maverick.  A pioneer not only in electronic music and progressive rock, but in music video, computer software, and Internet music delivery as well, and a multi-instrumentalist and a producer of a number of diverse artists Including Badfinger, Grand Funk Railroad, the New York Dolls, Meatloaf and The Cars,

And an interesting personal life as well.  Rundgren has the responsibility for three sons with various partners, Randy, Rex ( a minor league ballplayer) and Rebob (I take no responsibility for rock stars and their choice of names) and a daughter Liv.  He always knew that he was not the biological father of Liv but raised her as his own until she was eight years old and found out her actual father was Steven Tyler (Aerosmith). Liv reverted to her biological father’s name Tyler but still refers to Rundgren as ‘daddy’.

I like pretty much everything Todd Rundgren has done with the one exception being his most popular song “Bang the Drum All Day”, and I love drummers!

Stay safe and well...and let’s always be friends.

We can't play this game anymore, but

Can we still be friends?

Things just can't go on like before, but

Can we still be friends?

 We had something to learn

Now it's time for the wheel to turn

Things are said one by one

Before you know it's all gone

Let's admit we made a mistake, but

Can we still be friends?

Heartbreak's never easy to take, but

Can we still be friends?

 It's a strange sad affair

Sometimes seems like we just don't care

Don't waste time feeling hurt

We've been through hell together

La la la la, la la la la

Can we still be friends?

Can we still get together sometime?

 We awoke from our dream

Things are not always what they seem

Memories linger on

It's like a sweet sad old song
