Tuesday September 15, 2020 “I’d Love to Change the World” Ten Years After
Ten years after...what?
This is Alvin Lee’s (Graham Anthony Barnes) group, lead singer, main songwriter and primary guitarist, which he plays pretty well by the way. Once named “the fastest guitar in the West'' he is credited as a precursor to the 80’s shred style of playing.
Lee would eventually leave the group, ironically after their first successful charted song, today’s “I’d Love to Change the World” and go on to record his first solo effort On the Road to Freedom with some notable friends helping out like George Harrison, Steve Winwood, Ronnie Wood and Mick Fleetwood. Even with over twenty albums/CD’s in his catalog nothing would ever achieve the notoriety of “I’d Love to Change the World”.
You know that I am intrigued by band names and this group went through a bunch including Jay and the Jaycats, The Jaybirds, Ivan Jay and the Jaymen, The Blues Trip, Blues Yard and then Ten Years After, after what?
In a tribute to his idol Elvis Presley, Alvin Lee named the band Ten Years After (Elvis). My parenthetical not his but he has suggested that his band appeared ten years after Elvis’ early successes in the 50’s. Didn’t do the math, but please feel free to give it a try yourself.
Stay safe and well...and get out there and change the world, Alvin Lee has left it up to you.
