Monday, March 30, 2020 “Reach Out, I’ll Be There” Four Tops
A little bit of Motown. No wait, the Four Tops are a whole lot of Motown. The amazing voice of Levi Stubbs driving each song that they have recorded and I heartily recommend listening to each song they have ever recorded, they are all fine medicine.
And this song, “Reach Out I’ll Be There” was one of the hundreds of tunes created by the Motown hit factory of Holland-Dozier-Holland who wrote and produced 25 number one songs and dozens of others that may only have been top 10 hits. H-D-H were so good that after the giant Four Tops hit “Sugar Pie Honey Bunch” they gave the Tops their next hit “It’s the Same Old Song” and yes it was basically the same song, just different lyrics.
But here is a message for these times. Reminding us to reach out and help everyone no matter how big or small that reach might be. Check in on your family and friends to remind them that they are not alone, say “Hi” to neighbors, smile at strangers, six feet away of course, write a letter, send out a song each day, but just be there.
No chords here, it’s really not a guitar song, but the lyrics are below so jump in and sing along, maybe just clap and dance. And if you don’t think fashion styles always come back, check out those suits from 1966 and compare with the current fashionistas.
So just look over your shoulder, we’re all here to see each other through.
Be safe and well.
