Monday April 6, 2020 “You Get What You Give”, New Radicals
Cheesy pop for a Monday, but likable cheesy pop from a band whose name you never remember when the song frequently comes on the radio. So here you go, the New Radicals, write it down. Not only a one hit wonder but written, recorded, sung by and produced by effectively a one man band, Gregg Alexander, who also co-wrote the Carlos Santana Grammy winning song The Game of Love (absolutely not the Mindbenders song) a few soundtracks and even an Enrique Eglasias song.
And at the end of this song we all enjoy the namecheck of all the ‘fake’ musical stars whose asses Gregg intends to kick, thinking yeah there’s a couple in there that probably should get kicked and maybe a lot more he didn’t get around to…your choice here.
So what are the New Radicals doing as our song of the day? They have come to remind us once again the importance of music in our lives especially right here, right now. They suggest that “the whole damn world can fall apart…”, sound familiar, but “don’t let go, you’ve got the music in you.” and there’s magic in the music.
So keep on singing, playing, whistling, humming, clapping, dancing “but don’t let go, this world is gonna pull through.”
You don’t have admit this to anyone else, but I know that you secretly love this song too.
Stay safe and well.
