Saturday June 19, 2021 “Shake Some Action” Flamin’ Groovies
Here's our last shot with strange band names but there are so many more that we haven’t touched on that we will definitely come back for another round in the future. And we end with The Flamin’ Groovies...wait, what kind of groovies and what exactly are groovies!?
Often referred to as “one of rock’s most colorful, energetic and influential bands that you’ve never heard of” the Groovies fans included such diverse people as Rock Hudson, the Rolling Stones and Stepehn King, who references them in his novel, Sleeping Beauties. The band lists the Lovin Spoonful as one of their primary influences.
I searched long and hard but could not find a reason for this band's name. The best I came up with was that they "...just decided to change their name" from the Chosen Few.
“Shake Some Action” was produced by Dave Edmunds (rock group Rockpile) in 1972 but not released until 1976 when it was included on the Flamin’ Groovies album/CD also named Shake Some Action which was hailed by many rock critics as something that would “...trigger another rock & roll revolution…”.
Then again maybe it wouldn’t.
Stay safe and well...and shake some action, on your own.
