Friday June 11, 2021 “The Beat Goes On/Switchin’ to Glide” The Kings
This tune easily fits into the frivolous Friday mode.
The Kings were a quirky late 70's Canadian group, who were essentially one hit wonders who really had only one successful album, with one hit song on it in 1980. That ‘double single’ was the combined songs of “This Beat Goes On” and “Switching to Glide”.
According to the band the song actually has no real meaning or depth to it. However, it is catchy, funny, and has a great rhythm. It is as versatile a tune as it is enjoyable to listen to and sing along with while driving your car, and/or partying and dancing.
This amusing "feel good" tune was a bigger hit in Canada and the U.S. midwest than it was nationally and you've gotta love a band whose lead guitarist is Mister Zero but then they do refer to themselves as "Lunatics Anonymous that's where I belong", so it fits.
Stay safe and well...and maybe they did include some deep meaning to this song, “nothing matters but the weekend, from a Tuesday point of view”.
