Thursday June 10, 2021 “Don’t Stop Believing” Journey

On this date back in 2007 “Don’t Stop Believing “ ended the long-running HBO series Sopranos, leaving everyone wondering just what might have happened to Tony and his family as that mysterious stranger entered the diner.

And the band Journey has almost as colorful a backstory as the Sopranos but with far less dead people.  Formed in San Francisco by two former members of Santana, guitarist Neal Schon and keyboard player Greg Rolie, who sang lead on several Santana songs and would be the original lead singer for Journey.

The band would have their greatest success when Steve Perry joined the band as lead singer.  And you could create an interesting family tree with the members of this band to include artists like Santana, Bad English, the Babys, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed and so many others.

Schon is an exceptional guitarist, a prodigy by many standards and rumour has it that there was a continuing competition between him and Carlos Santana.  As a teenager Schon was invited by Eric Clapton to play on the Derek & the Dominos album but he declined to join Santana.

Stay safe and well...and excuse the cliche but don’t stop believing.

Just a small town girl

Livin' in a lonely world

She took the midnight train goin' anywhere

Just a city boy

Born and raised in south Detroit

He took the midnight train goin' anywhere

A singer in a smoky room

A smell of wine and cheap perfume

For a smile they can share the night

It goes on and on, and on, and on

 Strangers waiting

Up and down the boulevard

Their shadows searching in the night

Streetlights, people

Living just to find emotion

Hiding somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill

Everybody wants a thrill

Payin' anything to roll the dice

Just one more time

Some will win, some will lose

Some were born to sing the blues

Oh, the movie never ends

It goes on and on, and on, and on

 Strangers waiting

Up and down the boulevard

Their shadows searching in the night

Streetlights, people

Living just to find emotion

Hiding somewhere in the night

 Don't stop believin'

Hold on to the feelin'

Streetlights, people

 Don't stop believin'

Hold on

Streetlights, people

 Don't stop believin'

Hold on to the feelin'

Streetlights, people
