Wednesday June 2, 2021 “Hungry” Paul Revere & The Raiders
Just realized looking ahead at this week’s songs that it should have been themed “Some of Ed’s Favorite Pop Tunes.”
Eric Carle, children’s book writer and illustrator extraordinaire passed away recently and is there anyone on the list who hasn’t read or had his books read to them dozens of times...I doubt it.
Carle had written or illustrated more than 70 childrens books and his The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been translated into more than 66 languages and has sold more than 50 million copies. By comparison Paul Revere & the Raiders had twenty eight albums/CDs, fifteen top twenty hits and sold nearly 50 million records. But none of them were about caterpillars.
Today’s song has a memorable bass line that drives the tune and singer and saxophone player (no saxophone on this record though) Mark Lyndsay can be heard playing lead tambourine if you listen carefully.
“Hungry” was written by Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, Brill Building songwriters who would themselves have a long list of very successful songs and record sales for the artists who recorded them.
Stay safe and well…and there really are no songs that cover caterpillars but there is a frog puppet and what appears to be a dog puppet in this video.
