Sunday February 6, 2022 “Yesterday’s Gone” Chad & Jeremy
David (Chad) Stuart and Jeremy Clyde met while they were classmates at London's Central School of Speech and Drama, and initially formed a guitar centred folk duo and then put together a rock group with one of the more well thought out band names, The Jerks.
When The Jerks disbanded, Chad and Jeremy returned to their work as an acoustic duo and had a residency at a local pub where they were seen by Academy Award winninhg composer John Barry who got them a record deal with independent label, Ember Records. At Ember they recorded their first song, co-written by Chad, which is today’s tune “Yesterday’s Gone”. Remarkably for a debut, it became an international top ten song.
That’s kind of the good news bad news as this would be their biggest selling song. I saw Chad & Jeremy live and they were quite good and really entertaining, mocking themselves after playing a variety of well executed folk tunes by saying they would “...now play a medley of their hit.”
The duo would have an on-again, off again career with Jeremy Clyde taking on some acting roles during the intermissions including a recurring role on Downton Abbey as General Robertson., as well as a number of West End (UK’s Broadway) productions.
Stay safe and well…and this winter, at least in the northeast, we could use a smooth, sweet, summer song even if it’s only for the two and a half minutes of this lovely tune. Couldn't resist the alliteration.
