Saturday January 8, 2022 “Smile” Wolf Alice

Wolf Alice was formed in London in 2010 behind Elli Rowsell's remarkable vocals as an acoustic duo, odd given their current much harder sound.  They took the band name Wolf Alice from a short story by English novelist and poet Angela Carter.

Wolf Alice’s debut album, My Love Is Cool was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Performance, as well as a Mercury Prize and Brit and Ivor Novello Awards.  That album included their first US alternative top ten hit, the cleverly titled “Moaning Lisa Smile”.

Their second album, released in 2017 contained the equally intriguing single titled,  “Yuk Foo” a ‘breakup’ song which not surprisingly contains lyrics that will never allow it to be played on any radio station.  Wolf Alice is signed to the independent record label, perhaps appropriately called Dirty Hit.

Wolf Alice has a song on the 2016 movie Ghostbusters, “Ghoster” and today’s song comes from their 2021 album Blue Weekend.

Stay safe and well…and don’t get panicky about the ‘strong language’ warning at the outset of the video, it’s not that bad.

I ain't afraid though my steps appear tentative

I scope it out then I throw myself into it

I ain't ashamed in the fact that I'm sensitive

I believe that it is the perfect adjective

I wear my feelings on my sleeve, I suggested it

It serves me better than to swallow in a sedative

I am what I am and I'm good at it

And you don't like me well that isn't fucking relevant

 Don't call me mad

There's a difference, I'm angry

And your choice to call me cute has offended me

I have power, there are people who depend on me

And even you have time you wish to spend on me

And now you all think I'm unhinged

But wind it up and this honeybee stings

Did you think I was a puppet on strings?

Wind her up and this honeybee sings

Ah, ah, ah, ah, sun and the shine

Ah, ah, ah, ah, smile

Ah, ah, ah, ah, sun and the shine

If you want me you can find me at the bar

Lost souls congregate at the bar

Take a minute and remember who you are

Sip your drink, sip one more and you're a star

Ah, ah, ah, ah, sun and the shine

Ah, ah, ah, ah, smile

Ah, ah, ah, ah, sun and the shine

Ah, ah, ah, ah, smile

Ah, ah, ah, ah
