Sunday August 30, 2020 “Cruel Summer” Le Big Zero

Kind of a twofer today.

So summer isn’t really over yet but 'summer' songs of the day will go on hiatus after today’s tuneful adventure.  Not to worry though, song of the day will continue on just with different foolishly random themes.

Today we have a mash up, so to speak with two “Cruel Summers” each quite different songs but they share the same title.  Copyrights apparently only apply to song lyrics and not titles.  The first one by Bananarama was an international top ten tune while the other by Taylor Swift, although it never cracked the top twenty was ranked by Rolling Stone as the fourth best song of 2019. 

However, the fun here is Le Big Zero’s interpretations which manage in each to achieve 'raw intimacy without sacrificing on nuance and intricacy' (borrowed that from one of the reviews of the band). If you were looking for labels you could probably drop Le Big Zero into grunge, indie rock, slacker rock or maybe just exciting, energetic music with strong musicianship, unique perspectives, solid individual vocals and great harmonies.
