Sunday August 16, 2020 Woodstock Day Two
Day Two at Woodstock presented a completely different problem from Day One, so many great acts who should we choose? Santana, The Who, Sly & the Family Stone, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival and all with remarkable setlists. But once again the choice seems obvious, Janis Joplin.
Not much that we don’t know about her short life but in researching this I did discover that there is a story that she and Jim Morrison were at a party together and she wasn’t interested in Morrison’s relentless attention. After multiple refusals she finally broke a bottle of Southern Comfort, her drink of choice, over his head and knocked him out. I guess that’s another way to say ‘No!”
So here’s Janis Joplin who famously once said "Onstage, I make love to 25,000 people - then I go home alone".
This is not the Woodstock video version which doesn’t seem to be available, reportedly because Joplin refused to give the rights due to her highly altered state which she felt adversely affected her performance, but Janis needs to be seen live.
