Friday , April 24, 2020 “Build Me Up Buttercup” The Foundations

It’s another Frivolous Friday and time for one of those songs that have no relationship with the current circumstances but are great to sing along with, guaranteed to lift your spirits and will bring a smile to your face if only when you recall its use in the movie Something About Mary (video Included here).

Musical connections are always fun and this song was co-written by Mike D’Abo, who took over as lead singer for the group Manfred Mann (another Frivolous Friday song ‘Do Wah Diddy’) when Paul jones left to pursue an acting career. And it is conceivable that these guys, Jones & D’Abo could be brothers from a different mother, see photos below.

The Foundations were unfortunately torn apart by legal machinations and internal band strife and would have to be satisfied with their two major hits that included this song and ‘Baby Now That I’ve Found You” which kind of sounds just like BMUB, only sideways.
