Saturday February 13, 2021 “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” Roberta Flack

Well we are at the end of ‘mixtape  week’ and I can't tell you how many songs I didn’t include or how many times I changed the songs that ultimately made the cut.  You’ll have some personal favorites you might want to add but in the meantime, I have saved what could be the most romantic for last.

Get the candles out, open your favorite beverage and put this one on repeat.

Dreamy and hot, Roberta Flack delivers a sultry mood that really doesn’t require much elaboration.  Ms. Flack has the distinction of being the only solo artist to win back to back Song of the Year Grammys for this tune and for “Killing Me Softly” the year prior.  In addition to those number one hits she has three additional number ones.

“The First Time” was written by Ewan McColl for his lover, Peggy Seeger, folk singer and activist Pete Seeger’s half sister.

Stay safe and well...and I hope Valentine's Day and every day is special for you and everyone that you care about.

The first time ever I saw your face

I thought the sun rose in your eyes

And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave

To the dark and the endless skies, my love

To the dark and the endless skies

And the first time ever I kissed your mouth

I felt the earth move in my hand

Like the trembling heart of a captive bird

That was there at my command, my love

That was there at my command, my love

And the first time ever I lay with you

I felt your heart so close to mine

And I knew our joy would fill the earth

And last 'til the end of time my love

And it would last 'til the end of time

The first time ever I saw your face

Your face, your face, your face
