Sunday January 31, 2021 “Just Breathe” Pearl Jam

This is such a lovely song by Pearl Jam that it inspires me to offer the same thought twice so here goes the first thought:  do cherish those close to you every day.

The band was initially called Mookie Blaylock after the New Jersey Nets basketball player and they named their first album Ten which was Blaylock’s number.  Odd association since this was a Seattle based band. As to where the Pearl Jam name originated the band members have offered several very different versions at different times so let’s go with ‘just because’.

Pearl Jam’s debut album Ten reached number two on the charts but never got to number one as it was held off by Billy Ray Cyrus’ (Miley’s dad) album Some Gave All which contained his hit ‘Achy Breaky Heart’.

‘Just Breathe’ is included on Pearl Jam’s ninth album Backspacer released in 2009.  I still think of this band as new even though it has been nearly thirty years since they released their first album.  They are members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, inducted by David Letterman who is among their many fans, and have sold more than sixty million albums/CDs to date.

Stay safe and well...and do cherish those close to you every day.  Was that an echo?

Yes I understand

That every life must end

As we sit alone

I know someday we must go

Oh, I'm a lucky man

To count on both hands

The ones I love

Some folks just have one

Yeah, others they got none

Stay with me

Let's just breathe

Practiced on our sins

Never gonna let me win

Under everything

Just another human being

Yeah, I don't want to hurt

There's so much in this world

To make me bleed

Stay with me

You're all I see

Did I say that I need you?

Did I say that I want you?

What if I didn't I'm a fool you see

No one knows this more than me

'Cause I come clean

I wonder everyday

As I look upon your face

Everything you gave

And nothing you would take

Nothing you would take

Everything you gave

Did I say that I need you?

Oh, did I say that I want you?

What if I didn't I'm a fool you see

No one knows this more than me

'Cause I come clean

Nothing you would take

Everything you gave

Hold me 'til I die

Meet you on the other side
