Sunday February 7, 2021 “Love Song” The Cure
In case all the jewelry ads on the radio/TV haven’t reminded you enough lately, Valentine’s Day is on the horizon and one of the sweet things that you can do for that special someone in your life, in addition to flowers, candy and jewelry, is to make them a ‘mixtape’ explaining in word and song how you feel about them but can’t express as eloquently as these artists do.
So you’re welcome, we’re going to make a ‘mixtape’ this week to share on Valentine Day and I promise to never divulge the source if asked.
And could we express the sentiment any better than ‘I will always love you’ as Robert Smith lead singer and songwriter of the Cure proclaims to his partner Mary Poole with whom he has been in love since he was fourteen. Smith is sixty one...maybe not the best looking guy, but he is a rock star and to have a forty seven year relationship with the same person, that’s pretty extraordinary.
The Cure have so many iconic songs with Smith’s unique sound and musical take. They have recorded thirty five albums/CDs and have thirty top twenty singles.
Pick and choose from Smith’s lyrics, but you can't go wrong with any of them as you proclaim your love this valentine’s day and hopefully each day after that as well.
Stay safe and well...and however far away, I will always love you. See how well that works!
