Tuesday August 31, 2021 “A Summer Song” Chad & Jeremy

I saw Chad & Jeremy when they opened for the Beach Boys and they proved to be the better of those two acts.  Even though they had two previous charting songs they jokingly referred to “A Summer Song” as “a medley of their hit” after which the Beach Boys sang all of their hits, terribly.

In addition to singing, Chad and Jeremy have some acting credits, both trained at the London School of Drama, both as a team on a variety of 60s TV shows and as individuals on London stages.  They even had a pilot for an Ameircan TV rock & roll show.  Who better to do this than handsome, trained actors who could sing and actually play their instruments.  Unfortunately for them the network executives decided to go with another rock & roll show, The Monkees.

At one point, later in their career, Jeremy failed to return to the U.S. for a scheduled Chicago performance and forced Chad to take the stage alone with a cardboard cutout of his partner under his arm; the harmonies were probably not so good that evening.

There are those who say this song bears more than a passing resemblance to Buddy Holly’s “Words of Love” and it is interesting to note that in this video, Chad (Jeremy?) is wearing glasses very similar to those sported by Mr. Holly.  Coincidence?

Stay safe and well…and isn't it fun to see the 'forever young' Dick Clark.

Trees swayin' in the summer breeze

Showin' off their silver leaves

As we walked by

Soft kisses on a summer's day

Laughing all our cares away

Just you and I

Sweet sleepy warmth of summer nights

Gazing at the distant lights

In the starry sky

They say that all good things must end someday

Autumn leaves must fall

But don't you know that it hurts me so

To say goodbye to you?

Wish you didn't have to go

No, no, no, no

And when the rain

Beats against my windowpane

I'll think of summer days again

And dream of you

They say that all good things must end some day

Autumn leaves must fall

But don't you know that it hurts me so

To say goodbye to you

Wish you didn't have to go

No, no, no, no

And when the rain

Beats against my windowpane

I'll think of summer days again

And dream of you

And dream of you
