Wednesday August 25, 2021 "Heart Full of Soul" The Yardbirds (60s)
Back to the zoo...it’s all happening there.
In the 60s as band members from successful groups began to move on and form new bands with members from other successful groups this new phenomenon was called 'supergroups'. In truth The Yardbirds, who would evolve briefly into The New Yardbirds and ultimately become Led Zeppelin, were the original supergroup with soon to be legendary guitarists Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck all being members of this group.
The unique vocals of guitarist and harmonica player Keith Relf and songwriting skills of people like Graham Gouldman, founding member of the rock group 10cc.("I'm Not in Love", "Dreadlock Holiday") helped catapult the Yardbirds onto the top of the charts. An international top ten song “Heart Full of Soul” would also be one of the primary reasons that Clapton would leave the group over 'artistic differences".
Well before the Beatles got into their eastern music influence, the Yardbirds employed a sitar player for "Heart Full of Soul" but he couldn't get the western 4/4 cadence down so Jeff Beck took over and created an eastern sound on his guitar.
Stay safe and well...and the animals, not Eric Burdon will continue and yes we will certainly note the passing of Rolling Stone Charlie Watts.
Sick at heart and lonely
Deep in dark despair
Thinking one thought only
"Where is she, tell me where?"
And if she says to you
She don't love me
Just give her my message
Tell her of my plea
And I know
Well, if she had me back again
Oh, I would never make her sad
I've got a heart full of soul
And I know
If she had me back again
Oh, I would never make her sad
I've got a heart full of soul
She's been gone such a long time
Longer than I can bear
But if she says she wants me
Tell her that I'll be there
And if she says to you
She don't love me
Just give her my message
Tell her of my plea
And I know
Well, if she had me back again
Oh, I would never make her sad
I've got a heart full of soul
