Saturday October 23, 2021 “Ultra Violet (Light My Way)” U2
Our final rainbow color is violet and U2 will provide us with one of the few tunes covering this rainbow color.
Larry Mullen, Jr. at age 14, posted a notice on a high school bulletin board asking for fellow musicians to form a band. He got responses from Paul Hewson, David Evans, Adam Clayton, and Dick Evans each of whom responded to the ad, and the teenagers came together as a Beatles and Stones cover band called Feedback.
Dick Evans would leave the band and Hewson would change his name to Bono while David Evans would become The Edge and there you would have U2. The band name perhaps taken from the famous US spy planes or as the band members recalled, it was on the short list of names they were considering that the band hated the least.
Here's an example of the power of rock. In 1999 when Bono met with Pope John Paul II to discuss Third World debt, the Pope put on Bono’s trademark wrap-around sunglasses during their meeting...even the Pope was a fan. Bono wears those sunglasses whenever he is in public not because he is a rock star, which he most certainly is, but because he suffers from glaucoma.
Stay safe and well...and in 2010 Bono acquired a 1.5 percent stake in Facebook which today is estimated to be worth nearly $1 billion.
