Tuesday April 20, 2021 “High Head Blues” Black Crowes

In 1992, thirty years ago by my math, when the Black Crowes first album/CD Shake Your Money Maker hit it was like a musical slap in the face that was followed by ‘hey you, listen to this now and pay attention!’  A super refreshing and exhilarating dose of solid rhythm and blues delivered explosively.

The Black Crowes band was founded by the Robinson brothers, guitarist Rich and vocalist Chris  and their first album contained songs like “She Speaks to Angels’, “Jealous Again” and “Hard to Handle” all top ten hits. But llike all good rock & roll brothers, think the Everlys (Everly Brothers), the Wilsons (Beach Boys), the Davies (KInks), and the Gallaghers (Oasis) the Robinson  brothers would fight and feud and ultimately put an end to an otherwise great musical collaboration.

The brothers have made peace with one another and are reportedly rehearsing for an announced 2021 tour together which may be the inspiration for the recent radio airplay for today’s song of the day even though it was recorded in 1994.

Yeah the video, I have no freaking idea, it was directed by Michel Gondry, who also directed the movie, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, didn’t get that movie either!

Stay safe and well...and as the song suggests on either side there is both wisdom and rage.

Sometimes I have a ghetto in my mind

Other times sunshine high head fine

In between I get cold, old mean

Intertwined with country pride open and kind

 This draws a line

Sorry to coin a phrase

On either side is wisdom and rage

So keeping track of time

Racing with my age

Sleeping with the snakes

Forget that you showed up late

It ain't worth it baby

 [Chorus:]

A charmed life it is

At least they tell you so

I got a good idea

It ain't like they say is so

And if it is then let me go

Let me go

Any day there might be hell to pay

But in other ways

It makes it seem OK

I'll tell you what I mean

It's not a plot nor a scheme

It's just peace in my mind

Again can I use the word kind

I ain't sorry about it baby
