Monday April 19, 2021 “Living on the Edge” Aerosmith

I never really thought of Aerosmith as rock philosophers but this song’s lyrics really resonate today.

So much to cover with Aerosmith so I will try to be concise.  Busting out of Boston, who doesn’t love a little alliteration, Aerosmith hits big with their debut album/CD which included the anthemic “Drem On”; they followed that up with “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way”; Tyler and Perry went into rehab; Joe Perry leaves the band to form Joe Perry Project; Tyler and Perry are in rehab; the band is on a downward slide; Run DMC samples “Walk This Way” which includes Aerosmith and their career is rebirthed; Tyler and Perry are back in rehab.

Aerosmith records Permanent Vacation which includes “Dude Looks Like a Lady” and “Angel”, they are back on top and not in rehab.  Their next album/CD Pump includes “Love in an Elevator’ and “Jamie’s Got a Gun”; they release Get a Grip which includes today’s song of the day “Living on the Edge” and “Crying”.

They are still on top and no one is in rehab but there are persistent rumors about Steven Tyler’s drug use who then becomes a short lived judge on American Idol. And if there is a top ten of rock & roll frontmen, Sreven Tyler is definitely on that list.

Rehabs aside this is a great band with a bunch of huge hits many of which are penned by Tyler and Perry along with Mark Hudson, a subject for a future Song of the Day with his Hudson Brothers.

Stay safe and well...and I met Steven Tyler once, a long story that I will share when we all get together again, and he is not the dick you might expect him to be.

There's somethin' wrong with the world today

I don't know what it is

Something's wrong with our eyes

We're seein' things in a different way

And God knows it ain't his

It sure ain't no surprise

 Livin' on the edge

Livin' on the edge

Livin' on the edge

Livin' on the edge

There's somethin' wrong with the world today

The light bulb's gettin dim

There's meltdown in the sky

If you can judge a wise man

By the color of his skin

Then mister you're a better man than I

 Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself from fallin'

Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself at all

Livin' on the edge

You can't stop yourself from fallin'

Livin' on the edge (everybody, everybody)

Tell me what you think about your situation

Complication, aggravation is getting to you

If chicken little tells you that the sky is fallin'

Even if it wasn't would you still come crawlin'

Back again

I bet you would my friend

Again and again and again and again and again

Tell me what you think about your situation

Complication, aggravation is getting to you

If chicken little tells you that the sky is fallin'

Even if it was would you still come crawlin'

Back again

I bet you would my friend

Again and again and again and again and again

Something right with the world today

And everybody knows it's wrong

But we can tell 'em no or we could let it go

But I'd would rather be a hanging on

 Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself from fallin'

Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself at all

Livin' on the edge

You can't stop yourself from fallin'

Livin' on the edge (everybody, everybody)

 Livin' on the edge

Livin' on the edge

Livin' on the edge

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

 Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself from fallin'

Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself at all

Livin' on the edge

You can't stop yourself from fallin'

Livin' on the edge

 Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself

You can't help yourself

Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself at all

 Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself

You can't help yourself

Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself

You can't help yourself

Livin' on the edge

You can't help yourself from fallin'

Livin' on the edge, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
