Saturday April 17, 2021 “Best Day of My Life” American Authors
So here’s a delightful song for Saturday..
Oddly the inspiration for this happy, positive piece of pop was, according to band members, the horrific incidents at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Apparently they were recording not far from the school when it occurred and were as overwhelmed by the event as everyone.
They said “...we were thinking that the world has hit a whole new low, and we wanted to focus on making things that make people happy and make people feel positive, because that's something that was missing from rock and from songwriting, just something so simplistic that can be an earworm, that can carry people."
The band members are geographically diverse but met at the Berklee School of Music. Guitarist Zac Barnett grew up in Minnetonka, Minnesota, banjoist James Adam Shelley grew up in Tallahassee, Florida, bass player Dave Rublin grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, and drummer Matt Sanchez grew up in San Antonio, Texas. They now all call Brooklyn, NY home.
“Best Day of My Life” has been featured in, among other things, a Lowe's television advertisement in the United States, a Hyundai television advertisement in the United Kingdom, an advertisement in South Africa for Castle Lager, a Telecom New Zealand advertisement, a trailer for the film Delivery Man, Pro Evolution Soccer 2015, the Konami video game, the opening sequence for ESPN's 2013 World Series of Poker coverage, a trailer for the film Earth to Echo, a trailer for the film How to Train Your Dragon 2, the film Humpback Whales, and a trailer for the film St. Vincent. The song is also featured in the video game "Guitar Hero Live".
Wonder if they own the publishing rights.
Then there is the video?
Stay safe and well...and I hope that every day is the best day of your life.
