Friday July 9, 2021 “Bad Day” Daniel Powter
One hit wonder “Bad Day” written by Canadian Daniel Powter initially gained exposure in Europe when Coca Cola used it in one of their commercials and after that the song took off. Here in the US of course it became ubiquitous when it was chosen by American Idol as the ‘sing off’ tune for contestants that would be leaving the competition.
“Bad Day” became an international number one single which unfortunately Powter was unable to follow-up. He did of course have a number one record that sold over 3 million copies and it was the seventh most played song on the American radio in 2006.
Keyboard player Powter continues to write and produce music for a variety of artists and does session work.
In a somewhat dubious accomplishment, Billboard named Daniel Powter the top one-hit wonder of the 2000s.
Stay safe and well...and the video for this song was shot in a day by director Marc Webb who would go on to direct The Amazing Spider Man.
