Saturday July 3, 2021 “Help Me Rhonda” Beach Boys
A number one summer single from the Beach Boys in 1965.
Music for “Help Me Rhonda” was written by Brian Wilson with lyrics by Mike Love. In the song, the words "get her out of my heart" appear five times; "help me, Rhonda, help, help me, Rhonda" appears 18 times; the song's title appears 41 times; the words "help me" appear 43 times; the name Rhonda appears 45 times, and the word "help" appears 61 times. Mr. Love is truly a creative wordsmith with remarkable vocabulary depth.
Still it’s a fun song.
The lead vocals on “Help Me Rhonda” are done by Al Jardine with back-up vocals by the remaining Beach Boys and the instrumentation is done by the famous LA session group the Wrecking Crew which for this recording included Glen Campbell and Leon Russell among others. The only Beach Boys to play an instrument on this recording were Carl Wilson who played twelve string electric guitar and Brian Wilson on Hammond organ.
“Help Me Rhonda” is included on two Beach Boys albums, The Beach Boys Today and Summer Days (And Summer Nights!) the second of which also includes “California Girls”.
Stay safe and well...and I think summers might well have been canceled without music from the Beach Boys.
