Monday June 28, 2021 “Here Comes Summer” Jerry Keller
Summer began last week and we are about to spend a week celebrating one of the top four seasons of the year.
We will start with a song that was conceived in a more innocent time over sixty years ago but still offers a fresh, two minute, happy introduction to the end of the school year and the beginning of all that is so free and optimistic about summer.
“Here Comes Summer” was written and sung by Jerry Keller who got his big musical break through Pat Boone (some of you may remember him) who was a friend from his church back in Oklahoma. This would be Keller’s only charting hit but he would go on to successfully write songs for artists as diverse as Andy Williams and The Cyrkle, a group managed by Brian Epstein of Beatles fame and named by John Lennon.
Today’s song was a top ten summertime hit in the US but was a number one single in the UK even though it wasn’t released there until late August.
Stay safe and well...and since this goes back to the 60s it’s OK to say you should get out that suntan lotion and Ray Bans and head to the beach. Reality suggests in 2021 that you should replace the suntan lotion with sunblock, but the Ray Bans still work.
