Thursday June 24, 2021 “All the Young Girls Love Alice” Elton John
Today’s song of the day is included on Elton John’s seventh studio album, the remarkable double album/CD Goodbye Yellow Brick Road which includes iconic tunes like “Candle in the Wind”, “Bennie & the Jets”, “Harmony”, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Yellow Brick Road” and one of the great rock masterpieces “Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding” in addition to so many other tunes.
Elton John has been writing hits, scoring movies and Broadway plays since 1968. He is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame, has five Grammys, two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and a Tony Award.
But just like other rock stars he had his own humble musical beginnings. In 1965, playing with the band Bluesology he was backing minor American R&B musicians like Major Lance, Doris Troy, and the Bluebells and did not pass his audition to be the lead singer for British rock groups King Crimson and Gentle Giant. And before he made the transition to Elton John he wrote unsuccessful songs for Lulu and Roger Cook.
Stay safe and well...and think about this. Bermie Taupin wrote the lyrics for all seventeen songs on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in two weeks, Elton John composed all of the music in three days and the seventeen tracks on the album were recorded in two weeks!
