Monday July 6, 2020 “Manic Monday” Bangles
Maybe a little less manic in the summer though.
The Bangles were an actual working band and not manufactured by a record label. Their performances caught the attention of Prince who gave them “Manic Monday” which he was saving for his own female band Appolonia 6 and the Bangles recording of the song became an international number one hit.
That launched a short lived career with hits that included “Walk Like an Egyptian” (try and get that one out of your head) and a recording of the Simon & Garfunkel tune “Hazy Shade of Winter”. The group ultimately dissolved when the other band members felt Susana Hoffs was getting too much attention as each of them considered themselves capable singers and songwriters.
One of the Bangles would go on to become a history professor, one married a film director and another married one of the Cowsills, the family band that inspired the TV series The Partridge Family.
Stay safe and well...and not manic.
