Thursday March 10, 2022 “Gotta Get Back” Shelby Lynne
When you think of tragic childhoods, Shelby Lynne had an unfathomable one, but we won’t get into that here. However if you were doing a ‘my childhood was so bad’ challenge with Shelby you would walk away from that conversation thinking ‘holy shit, she really had a bad childhood.’’
In 2001 Shelby Lynne won a Grammy for Best New Artist even though she'd already released six albums and had over a decade of recording experience under her belt. During those years she covered a wide variety of musical styles including Southern soul, roots rock, Western swing, jazz, and adult contemporary pop; and that eclecticism probably made her difficult to market,
Shelby Lynne’s younger sister is country singer Allison Moorer and they toured together in 2010, actually Allison toured as a back-up singer with Shelby early in her career. They had planned to record an album together but that has not come to pass yet.
In the spring of 2020, Lynne announced the release of a self-titled set she called her "most revealing album yet." Many of its songs were taken from the soundtrack to an unreleased independent film by lyricist/director/screenwriter Cynthia Mort titled When We Kill the Creators, in which Lynne stars as "a deeply conflicted artist struggling at the intersection of art and commerce."
In addition to having a great voice Shelby Lynne is a decent guitarist and she recently appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show singing “Tragedy” with former J. Geils Band frontman Peter Wolf.
Stay safe and well…and ‘get back’ not with the Beatles but with Shelby Lynne.
