Sunday February 13, 2022 “If We Never Meet Again” Tommy Conwell & the Young Rumblers
You may remember Jules Shear from the Aimee Mann/Michael Penn song of last week, OK you don’t, but now you do. Shear has written many songs that have been recorded by a wide variety of artists including Cyndi Lauper, the Bangles, Alison Moyet, Art Garfunkel and today’s artist Tommy Conwell & the Young Rumblers.
One of the most modest of reclusive singer/songwriters, Jules Shear may be more well known among singers and musicians than to the general populace and more treasured by critics than the casual fan, but he has indicated that he is doing alright as a songwriter.
Referring to the Cyndi Lauper song that he wrote, “All Through the Night”, Shear said, “I definitely made money off of it. I bought a house. I'm still making money to this day from it. A certain amount goes into my account every six months. It's not exactly the same, but it doesn't fluctuate that much.”
Jules Shear has released a couple of albums as Jules & the Polar Bears as well as some solo albums with interesting songs but his vocals could be considered an acquired taste.
As for Tommy and his Rumblers, I'm pretty sure that you are not familiar with them but trust me on this, “If We Never Meet Again” is a lovely tune with a poignant message that you will enjoy.
Tommy and his buddies had a modest hit with a more straightforward rock tune “I’m Not Your Man” which they performed on one of the live televised Grammy shows where Conwell surprised the cameramen, directors and the audience when he leapt from the stage to play the guitar solo in the aisle.
Stay safe and well…and remember that “just one smile can be planted like a seed.”
