Friday July 30, 2021 “Sit Next to Me” Foster the People

Multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Mark Foster initially began as Foster and the People but fans simply couldn’t get it right and referred to him as Foster the People, so he stopped fighting it.  The group is composed of Foster,  Cubbie Fink on bass and drummer Mark Pontius.

They drew radio and record label attention with their international number one 2011 single "Pumped Up Kicks" which was initially posted on their website and generated considerable buzz online.

For their 2011 tour, Foster the People conceived of the idea of a “Do Good Bus” which was composed of volunteers in each city who worked with local charities on everything from teaching music in schools to helping build homes with Habitat for Humanity.

Mark Foster wrote today’s song with Josh Abraham (30  Seconds to Mars, Linkin Park, Courtney Love), Oliver Goldstein (FloRida, Nelly Furtado) and Lars Stalfors (The Mars Volta, Cold War Kids).

Stay safe and well...and find someone to sit next to today.

Yeah, it's over, it's over

I'm circling these vultures

Got me prayin', man, this hunger

Feelin' somethin' rotten

Last time I saw you, said "What's up?"

And pushed right through

Then I tried to catch you

But we're always on the move

And now it's over, we're sober

Symptoms of the culture

And the night ain't gettin' younger

Last call's around the corner

Feelin' kinda tempted

And I'm pourin' out the truth

Just fadin' out these talkers

'Cause now all I want is you, I'm saying

Come over here and sit next to me

We can see where things go naturally

Just say the word and I'll part the sea

Just come over here and sit next to me, ooh, ooh, ooh

And I'll take you high

High (ooh, ooh, ooh)

Well, I ain't frontin' my intention

Got your man outlined in chalk

It's a midnight intervention

Got no plans to make it stop

Last time I saw you

Said you wanna keep it light

But I'm here to tell you

I'm not tryna change your mind

It's alright, ooh

It's alright, ooh

Yeah, come over here and sit next to me

We can see where things go naturally

Just say the word and I'll part the sea

Just come over here and sit next to me, ooh, ooh, ooh

And I'll take you high

High

High

High

 It's alright

It's alright

Yeah, it's alright

Yeah, it's alright

So come over here and sit next to me

We can see where things go naturally

Just say the word and I'll part the sea, mm

Just come over here and sit next to me, ooh, ooh, ooh

 It's alright
