Wednesday April 29, 2020 “The Waiting” The Killers

I watch the CBS Saturday Morning News each weekend to find out what of significance has happened the past week, not so informative anymore since it is all corona all the time, but the other reason is that they have a musical guest each week. Usually they are disappointing but every once in a while they get it right (Black Pumas a while back for instance).

Because of social separation, the past few weeks have been even more musically disappointing, but for me, they hit it big this past Saturday with two of the band members from The Killers doing an acoustic version of Tom Petty’s “The Waiting”. I apologize for this upfront but I am not particularly a Tom Petty fan but this version and the lyrics of the chorus just seemed perfect for the moment.

On a lighter aside I share with you this comment from Brandon Flowers, lead singer of the Killers and singing in this video. When asked why they chose such a dark name for their band he said “When I did my taxes, where it said occupation, I wanted to be able to put killer”.

Be safe and well…and it does feel like the waiting for this to end is almost the hardest part.

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save your from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentlemen
Like you imagined when you were young

Can we climb this mountain
I don't know
Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
Let's take it easy
Easy now, watch it go

We're burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
When you were young
When you were young

And sometimes you close your eyes
And see the place where you used to live
When you were young

They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentlemen
Like you imagined when you were young
(Talks like a gentlemen, like you imagined)
When you were young

I said he doesn't look a thing like Jesus
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know
