Wednesday June 17, 2020 “Seasons (Waiting on You)” Future Islands

“...when people change they gain a piece but they lose one too…”

This tune, “Seasons” was considered the Best Song of 2014 by online music magazines Pitchfork, Spin and NME and it topped the Village Voice’s annual Pazz & Jop critics poll (yes that’s what its called) and the band’s performance on the David Letterman show, which is included here, was the most viewed video on the show’s YouTube page.

The song was also listed in 2019 on both Pitchfork and Rolling Stone’s top 100 songs of the 2010’s

For me their frontman and lyricist Sam Herring suggests what it might be like if Marlon Brando had been a rock singer, he even looks a bit like him.  I encourage you to watch the video with the assurance that you will find it at least fun or maybe even a bit frightening.

Stay safe and well...and watch for the ‘growl’.

Seasons change, and I tried hard just to soften you

The seasons change, but I've grown tired of tryin' to change for you

Because I've been waiting on you

I've been waiting on you

Because I've been waiting on you

I've been waiting on you

As it breaks, the summer awaits

But the winter washed whats left of the taste

As it breaks, the summer awaits

But the winter craved whats lost

Crave whats all gone away

People change, even though some people never do

You know when people change

They gain a piece but they lose one too

Because I’ve been hanging on you

I’ve been waiting on you

Because I've been waiting on you

I've been hanging on you

As it breaks, the summer awaits

But the winter washed whats left of the taste

As it breaks, the summer awaits

But the winter craved whats lost

Crave whats all

Crave whats all gone away

'Cause I've been waiting on you
