Friday November 27, 2020 “Romeo” Wipers

OK, this is a bit different, and it may actually cross the line in our Romeo and Juliet week but I’ll let you be the judges.

The Wipers, not misspelled and no idea why, is a band that was ahead of its time, founded by principal songwriter, left handed guitarist, and lead singer Greg Gage in Portland, OR. They are considered to be the first Northwest punk/grunge band before Nirvana, Soundgarden or Pearl Jam but referenced by each of those bands as an influence.

Sage’s plan for the Wipers was to record 15 albums in 10 years without touring or promotion.  He thought that the mystique built from not playing traditional rock would make people listen to their recordings much deeper with only their imagination about the band to go by.

The plan didn’t work that well.

The Wipers did record ten albums and released five singles including “Romeo” with little chart or sales success but they did develop a strong cult following including many musicians which led to two tribute albums.

Stay safe and well...and in case you miss it ‘roam Romeo’ and although there is no Juliet there is some interesting guitar work.er.

Romeo...

Walks the city at night

The tall dark buildings cast a ghostly shadow in his burning eyes

Oh Romeo...

Roam Romeo...

Romeo roam...

Roam romeo...

Yeah...

Romeo...

Cruises the street's at night

Under his feet lay the remains of all the cruisers

Before him

When out of the alley comes these green laser eyes

Saying come closer...come closer

Juliet!

He's still alone...

Oh Romeo...

Roam Romeo...

Romeo roam...

Yeah...

Romeo...

Around the corner there's nothing there

Juliet!

Whoa!

Cause there's no Juliet!
