Monday November 16, 2020 “I Think We’re Alone Now” Billie Joe Armstrong and Sons

We did a week of covers earlier but I thought it might be fun to do a week of ‘unexpected ‘ covers.

And let’s start with a quarantine performance by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day along with his sons covering the Tommy James (and later Tiffany for the younger members here) song “I Think We’re Alone Now”.  Both of the earlier versions were top ten international hits written by Ritchie Cordell who would also write “I Love Rock & Roll” for Joan Jett.

For me this was a surprising choice for Billie Joe Armstrong, a solid punk rocker but it probably reflects just how broad musical influence goes for musicians, and obviously growing up Armstrong could not have been exposed to a then non-existent music form, punk. Fun to watch him and his sons doing a pretty faithful rendition of this 60’s/80’s tune.

Funny but true comment posed below the video suggesting that in another year or two Billie Joe Armstrong’s sons will be older than him.

As an aside, Billie Joe's cat, Zero, died in a tragic washing machine accident, couldn't find further information that was available on this fact.

Stay safe and well...and you children behave.

Children behave

That's what they say when we're together

And watch how you play

They don't understand

And so we're running just as fast as we can

Holdin' onto one another's hand

Tryin' to get away into the night

And then you put your arms around me

And we tumble to the ground and then you say

 I think we're alone now

There doesn't seem to be anyone around

I think we're alone now

The beating of our hearts is the only sound

 Look at the way

We gotta hide what we're doin'

'Cause what would they say

If they ever knew

And so we're running just as fast as we can

Holdin' onto one another's hand

Tryin' to get away into the night

And then you put your arms around me

And we tumble to the ground and then you say

I think we're alone now

There doesn't seem to be anyone around

I think we're alone now

The beating of our hearts is the only sound

I think we're alone now

(Alone now)

There doesn't seem to be anyone around

I think we're alone now

(Alone now)

The beating of our hearts is the only sound

I think we're alone now

(Alone now)

There doesn't seem to be anyone around

I think we're alone now

(Alone now)

The beating of our hearts is the only sound
