Thursday November 12, 2020 “Kick” INXS
This tune may have fit nicely with our ‘what is life’ theme, “sometimes you kick, sometimes you get kicked”.
INXS was an Australian band founded by the Farris brothers Andrew, Jon and Tim and included Kirk Pengilly, Garry Gary Beers (not a typo) and lead singer and primary lyricist Michael Hutchence, They were Initially known for their new wave/pop style but the band later developed a harder pub rock style that included funk and dance elements.
Originally called The Vegetables, it would be a couple of additional name changes before they would become INXS and begin what would be a long road to superstardom. Early on they would open for bands like Midnight Oil, Adam & the Ants, The Kinks, Hall & Oates as they built their fanbase but it wouldn’t be until their 1982 album/CD Shabooh Shoobah that INXS would begin to achieve broad radio airplay and audience recognition.
INXS would go on to receive dozens of awards, have more than twenty top twenty singles, multiple award winning, creative videos reaching the MtV audience and would sell over thirty million albums/CDs.
Flamboyant frontman Michael Hutchence passed in 1997 but left us with an exciting example of great rock performances with the live music of INXS.
Stay safe and well...and try not to get kicked.
