Tuesday December 29, 2020 “Rock & Roll Band” Boston
‘He smoked a big cigar and drove a Cadillac car’, I think we're on our way to be rock stars.
I always thought this was the actual backstory about the band Boston but it turns out, there really was no band before founder, engineer and main songwriter Tom Scholz recorded the demo which became their first album. So this song was strictly fabrication based on stories Scholz heard from friends in bands. It could however be the story of so many other bands that struggled to get that record deal and signed away their careers for a pocketful of mumbles and promises.
The original Boston album was put together with Brad Delp on all the vocals, a drummer and Scholz who played all the other instruments and engineered the very new but then frequently imitated sound. It was the biggest selling debut album of all time up to that point selling seventeen million albums/CDs, and there really wasn’t even a band.
So here’s another piece to achieving rock & roll stardom, go to MIT like Tom Scholz, learn to play lots of guitars and keyboards, invent some cool guitar effects and unless you have amazing vocal prowess find a singer like Brad Delp and go for it.
Stay safe and well...and ‘you’re gonna be a sensation.’
