Sunday December 27, 2020 “The Only Thing” Travis/Susannah Hoffs

This is another lovely song IMHO.

I have mentioned the musical segment on the morning news on CBS called Saturday Sessions before. These are always hit or miss for me and most often a miss, but this one really caught my attention when I saw it a while back.  Maybe it was the jumpsuits (?), maybe it was Susannah Hoffs (62 this January BTW) or likely because it is just a fine song.

Susannah Hoffs is, for me a known commodity, lead singer of the Bangles, big hits like the Prince penned “Manic Monday” and a solo career as well but this duet introduced me to the group Travis.  Not sure where I had been while they were recording their very extensive catalog of wonderful pop tunes since 1990.

A self taught musician, Travis lead singer, rhythm guitarist and main songwriter Fran Healy has some real musical creds, having recorded with the likes of Paul McCartney, Graham Nash and the band The Killers among others.

If like me you are not familiar with Travis and think you like this tune I encourage you to check them out.

Stay safe and well...and do cherish those who are important to you, every day.

La la la la la la la listen

La la la la la la listen to me

I'm reminiscing, reminiscing

And I'm missing how it used to be

They say when it hits you

You'll know that it's true

You'll know 'cause you feel it

Ooh-ooh

When I held you it was the only thing

Only thing

And all I knew was you were everything

Everything

You are the record in the record shop

Nobody wants to buy

You are the metaphor, the metaphor

The meta for the other guy

You call when you need it

You're nobody's fool

You take it, I leave it

Ooh-ooh

When I held you, it was the only thing

Only thing

And all I knew was you were everything

Everything

 Don't lend me your heart

You'll only tear it apart

Apart

Apart

La la la la la la la

La la la la la la la

La la la la la la la la

La la la la la la la la la

When I held you, it was the only thing

Only thing

And all I knew was you were everything

Everything

When I held you, it was the only thing

Only thing

So why am I blue?
