Friday March 12, 2021 “I’m Every Woman” Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston had one of the most remarkable voices ever.
She was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1963, her mother was gospel/R&B singer Cissy Houston, her cousin was Dionne Warwick and her godmother was Darlene Love. As a teenager she started a modeling career and was the first woman of color to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine.
She also did some acting early on, appearing in TV series Gimme a Break and Silver Spoons but it was her performance at a small club where Clive Davis, president of Arista records, heard her sing that started her on her true path.
Houston’s debut album/CD generated three chart topping singles and sold over 13 million copies, making it the best-selling debut ever by a female artist. And she cemented her status as a formidable artist with her follow-up album/CD which included four additional number one records.
She was such a talented singer that Houston she could even take a recording of "The Star Spangled Banner" (performed at the Super Bowl) into the pop Top 20. And then there is her critically acclaimed performance in the very successful film The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner.
She was certified as the most awarded female artist of all time by Guinness World Records and is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, with sales of over 200 million records worldwide. Houston released seven studio albums and two soundtrack albums, all of which have been certified diamond, multi-platinum, platinum, or gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). She is regarded as one of the greatest artists of all time.
Stay safe and well...and yes she did leave us way too soon.
