Thursday July 28, 2022 “A Pirate Looks at Forty” Jimmy Buffett

The leader of the Parrotheads, the Mayor of Margaritaville, the son of a son of a sailor, Jimmy Buffett has been entertaining fans the world over for more than 50 years with his music and laid back lifestyle.

Jimmy Buffett has 29 studio albums and has sold more than 20 million records. His best selling album the iconic Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes is certified platinum and marks the first appearance of “Margaritaville”, which went to number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. "Margaritaville" became an iconic everlasting summer song, is a tequila brand, a restaurant chain, and a resort.

Not just a musician and businessman, Jimmy Buffett has written three number-one best sellers: the short-stories collection, Tales From Margaritaville, the novel, Where is Joe Merchant?, and his autobiography, A Pirate Looks at Fifty. Having topped both the fiction and non-fiction bestseller lists has put Jimmy Buffett in rare company. In fact, only seven other authors have achieved this level of success, including Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, and Dr. Seuss!

And I know you were wondering, so in 2018 Jimmy Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett did a DNA test and the results came back negative, but the two men remained friends and continued to refer to each other as “Uncle Warren” and “Cousin Jimmy.”

I think my math is correct enough to suggest that pirate captain Jimmy Buffett is now looking at eighty.

Stay safe and well…and mix yourself a margarita, I know I will, and grill up a cheeseburger in paradise and enjoy this pirate’s tune.

Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call

Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall

You've seen it all, you've seen it all

Watched the men who rode you switch from sails to steam

And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen

Most of them dream, most of them dream

Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late

The cannons don't thunder, there's nothing to plunder

I'm an over-forty victim of fate

Arriving too late, arriving too late

I've done a bit of smuggling, I've run my share of grass

I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast

Never meant to last, never meant to last

And I have been drunk now for over two weeks

I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks

But I got stop wishing, got to go fishing, down to rock bottom again

Just a few friends, just a few friends

I go for younger women, lived with several a while

Though I ran them away, they'd come back one day

Still could manage to smile

Just takes a while, just takes a while

Mother, mother ocean, after all the years I've found

My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around

I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown
