Saturday May 30, 2020 “Saturday in the Park” Chicago
The Chicago Transit Authority (shortened to simply Chicago) was one of the few successful bands that strayed from the then prevalent three guitars and a drummer theory and was in fact comprised of guitars, bass, keyboards, horns, drums and percussion, so many players that their first band name was The Big Thing.
Their jazz influenced style became quite popular, over their long career they sold over 40 million albums/CDs, eighteen of them Platnum and twenty three Gold and had five consecutive number one albums. In somewhat questionable judgement it wasn’t until 2014 that the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
This tune, which songwriter and lead vocalist Robert Lamm openly admitted to basing on the Beatles “You Won’t See Me” was a number three song in 1972 and was inspired by an actual July 4th experience that he enjoyed in Central Park in New York City.
Enjoy a Saturday in the park and who knows people may be talking, people touching, really smiling.
Stay safe and well…”listen children all is not lost”.
